Hi! My name is Brooke. I am a wife, mom, chicken lady and homesteader to name a few. Our family has a small homestead in Mississippi and we want to share our journey with you. We love cooking real, whole food recipes and live as frugally as we can. We currently have chickens, goats and a large garden where we produce a lot of our own food.
My husband and I are working on plans to expand our homestead by raising some new animals so that we can live as self-sufficiently as possible. We love learning new skills that help us to live off the land. Come along with us as we learn to live a healthy, independent life with our children.
Some facts about me:
- I grew up in the country picking the produce from my papaw’s large gardens, but it wasn’t until the last few years that I have learned to grow food myself.
- I grew up in Mississippi, lived in Texas for two years after my husband and I got married. We moved back to Mississippi, just over the hill from where I grew up.
- I have had my own health struggles which eventually opened my eyes to the ingredients in most of our food. We now try to cook everything from scratch while also growing our own food.
Our family
My husband and I met through my great uncle, who was a family friend of his. He grew up working on his land and knew each other from church. He brought Joseph for a visit, four and a half hours away. After only knowing each other three and a half months, we were happily married in 2018.
We had our first child in Texas in 2020 and our second and third in Mississippi in 2021 and 2023. Since moving back to Mississippi, we have had the desire to be more self-sufficient. God has blessed us with so much in the last few years and taught us even more. We have big plans for the future that include raising all of our own meat as well as dairy and produce. We want to continue learning new skills and teaching our children where their food comes from.
So come along with us as we learn and share about our homestead.
